Zola Fay Blair, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to resilience, love, and creativity, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at the age of 92, with her dedicated son by her side. Born on November 28, 1932, in a challenging and impoverished part of Eastern Kentucky, Zola raised herself from her humble beginnings through sheer determination, ultimately forging a path to success that would inspire her family and friends alike.

Zola’s career was marked by her enduring commitment to excellence, having devoted many years to the University of Dayton and Cinema Associates. Throughout her professional life, she exemplified a strong work ethic that earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and acquaintances. Zola was not just an employee; she was a figure of vivacity and warmth who brought kindness and genuineness into every interaction.

An amazing seamstress and wonderful cook, Zola's creativity flourished in her passions, particularly in fashion, gardening, cooking, sewing, and writing poetry. Her vibrant personality shone through in her artistic endeavors, and her loving, selfless spirit left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Active in her church community whenever possible, Zola embodied the essence of dedication to those she loved and served.

She was fiercely proud of her accomplishments, most notably the journey from a lack of formal education to becoming a woman who could hold engaging conversations with individuals from all walks of life, including notable figures from the film industry. By breaking barriers and expanding her horizons, Zola became a beacon of hope and strength for her family.

Zola’s legacy lives on in her beloved family. She is survived by her son, Darrell J. Carter; her daughter, Linda Carter; her cherished grandchildren, Darrell "Jay" (Kris) Carter Jr., Denise Carter, and Sarah Wyman; and her adored great-grandchildren, Zachary Carter, Aria Carter, Kai Miyashita, and Fayelynn Wyman. She also leaves behind her special nephew, Julius Blair, and her former daughter-in-law, Vickie Hesler, along with many other family members and friends who will forever remember her warmth and spirit.

Zola was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Opal Blair, her brothers, Donald, Burnell, Denville, and Charles Blair, her husbands Edward J. Carter and Robert Mills, and her son, Jimmy Rogers, as well as several beloved poodles who brought joy to her life.

As we reflect upon the life of Zola Fay Blair, we are reminded of a woman who, despite the odds, cultivated a garden of love, joy, and creativity. Her story is one of triumph, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all.
