Zada Arlene Elam, née Rich, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 26, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 71. Born on March 8, 1955, in Dayton, Zada’s life was a testament to the enduring strength of family, love, and community.
Zada’s journey began in Dayton, where she was welcomed into the world by her parents, Harold and Audrey Rich. She grew up surrounded by the warmth and companionship of her siblings and family. Throughout her life, Zada exemplified compassion, resilience, and kindness—a legacy that endures in the hearts of all who knew her and will continue through her giving the gift of sight after she passed through eye donation.
Zada shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Danny Elam, whose unwavering love and partnership defined much of her adult life. Together, they built a family rooted in mutual support, integrity, and affection. Zada was a cherished mother to her daughters, Amber Elam, Danielle Elam Daugherty, and Trina Elam, and to her son, Shane Rich. She took immense pride in her role as a mother, always offering guidance, understanding, and unconditional love. Her influence and gentle spirit will forever resonate in the lives of her children.
As a grandmother, Zada delighted in the company of her grandchildren—Brandon, Mason, James, Isaiah, Julian, Gracie, Tallen, Emalline, and Lukus. Each grandchild was a source of deep joy and boundless pride, and she cherished every moment spent together. Zada’s lifelong devotion extended to her brothers, Eric Rich and Paul Rich, who will remember her as a pillar of strength and steadfastness. She leaves behind a legacy treasured by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, each of whom was touched by her warmth and caring nature.
Zada’s life was also shaped by those who preceded her in death: her father, Harold Rich; her mother, Audrey Rich; her sister, Caroline Wilson; and her sister-in-law, Sue Yates. Their memories remained dear to her, and she maintained deep bonds even across the years and distance.
Throughout her years, Zada contributed richly to the tapestry of her community, fostering strong relationships and upholding traditions of empathy and service. She carried herself with quiet dignity, offering support and encouragement generously to family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Zada’s life and pay their respects during a visitation on July 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424.
Though Zada Arlene Elam’s earthly journey has ended, the love, values, and guidance she bestowed will remain with those she touched, shining as an enduring beacon for generations to come.
