Wilma Witt

With a heavy heart we announce the death of Wilma Lucille Witt, who was born on March 30, 1929, and was sealed on September 20, 2025, at the age of 96. Born to the late Roy and Bessie Derrickson of Muncie Indiana, Wilma lived a life defined by her kindness, servitude, and unwavering determination. She not only devoted her life to her beloved family but also to serving God and His church.

Wilma married the love of her life, the late George Witt, in 1951, and they were blessed with two children over the following years. Her vibrant personality and devotion to family, service, and faith made her a beacon of light to everyone who had the privilege to cross paths with her. Wilma's guiding belief was that both physical and spiritual family is everything, and this belief reverberated strong and clear in her actions.

Wilma's mother was devoted to learning about Sabbath-keeping religions and urged all her children to turn to God by sending them copies of the Plain Truth as they graduated from high school. God called Wilma to begin attending the Worldwide Church of God in 1977 and she was Baptized in 1978. She was later ordained as a deaconess in 1991. On December 7, 1996, she and her family began attending the Philadelphia Church of God. She was blessed and honored to serve with her husband in the Philadelphia Church of God ministry from 1999-2009.

Her favorite past times included talking with friends and family on the phone and keeping up with her great grandchildren. She often asked if she could stream wrestling matches, football games, and singing performances of all her talented great-grandchildren. She loved scouring the history records late into the night and learning about her genealogy as she built a robust family tree. In 2019 she wrote an autobiography of her early life to show her grandchildren what it was like in the world she grew up in. She never missed a performance of Celtic Throne and at the age of 94 fulfilled her dream of seeing the show live.

Wilma, known as 'Gungy' to her family leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in the hearts of her son Steve Witt; her daughters-in-law, Terri and Alice Witt; and her grandchildren: Jennifer Jens, Eddie Witt (Robyn), Vicki Witt-Green (Jeremy), Jimmy Witt (Emily), Amber Witt, Leah Witt, and Jeremy Witt as well as her 12 great-grandchildren. Wilma was predeceased by her loving husband George, her son Greg Witt, and her grandson-in-law Louis Jens.

In memory of Wilma, we remember and celebrate a woman strong and determined, kind and serving, and above all, devoted to family and faith. The loss of such a special person is felt by many, and her life will be celebrated and cherished by all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). Wilma will be laid to rest with George at Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
