William Thomas “Bill” Mohs, age 63, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Greene Memorial Hospital.
Bill, the son of Robert and Lorraine Mohs, was born on February 10, 1962, in St. Cloud, Minnesota on the feast day of St. Scholastica. He was baptized on the very day he was born after receiving two blood transfusions, marking the beginning of a life firmly rooted in faith. Throughout his life, Bill remained deeply committed to following God’s will, living by the words of Padre Pio, whom his father Robert had met, “Pray, Hope, and Don’t Worry.” He first discovered the beauty of the Latin Mass in a magazine and the very first visit fell in love with it, carrying that reverence throughout his life.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He truly embodied the Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis, Always Faithful, not only in service but in his unwavering devotion to God, his family, and his duties. Following his military service, he worked as an Aircraft Dispatcher. He had earned his pilot’s license even before attending college, reflecting a lifelong passion for aviation. He especially loved the National Museum of the United States Air Force, and he looked forward to attending the Dayton Air Show almost every year.
Above all else, Bill was devoted to his family. He carefully balanced his professional life with helping homeschool his children, always putting their needs first. Education was always important to Bill. He was endlessly curious, loved learning, and continued studying throughout his life by attending conferences and yearly retreats. He encouraged everyone around him, especially his children, to value education, read often, and never stop learning. His presence was steady and reassuring, and his family always knew they could rely on him.
Bill had a rare gift for connecting with people. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a way of making people feel comfortable, heard, and valued. He was never jealous or judgmental and loved others unconditionally, regardless of differences. His kindness, patience, and open heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He loved the outdoors, especially hiking and taking long walks down the road every day, no matter the weather. He had a deep love for travel and exploration and preferred paper maps, enjoying the feeling of planning routes by hand and knowing where he was going long before the adventure began. Bill also grew very fond of the family cat, Ginger, who arrived as a stray and, despite his initial hesitation, quickly won his heart and became one of his constant companions.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mohs, and his siblings, James, Johnny, Laurie, and Francine Mohs. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kyong Mohs; his children, Catherine (Sean Nuzum) Mohs, John Mohs, and Therese Mohs; his mother, Lorraine Mohs; and his siblings, Mary Kay, Margaret, Clare, Thomas, Edward, Jane, Ann, John Lieser, Jennifer, and Michael, along with many extended family members and their spouses.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A Latin Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 10:30 am at Holy Family Catholic Church (140 S Findlay St., Dayton, OH 45403) Bill will be laid to rest with full military honors at Dayton National Cemetery following the Mass.
