Lt Col William M. Macek passed away at Miami Valley Hospital after a brief illness on December 22, 2024. Preceding him in death was his wife Debbie (Taulbee). Bill was born in Weirton, WV to the late Mike Macek and Genevieve Mayhew on February 4, 1945. He is survived by his sisters Pamela (Tom), Vickie (Jim), Cari (Jeff), twin brothers Lawrence (Dolly) and Robert (Connie); four sons Billy (Connie), Dwayne (Tiffany), Scott (Sandy), Chad (Mary), 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Bill graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1963, and immediately joined the Air Force where upon graduating from Basic Training he was assigned to Libya, North Africa. He returned to the States two years later for a year and was then deployed to Vietnam where he served with MACV - SOG. When he completed his tour, he was Honorably Discharged as Sargeant from the military and using his GI Bill, he attended and graduated from the University of Dayton. He was later Commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army Reserves where he spent 18 years. While in the Reserves he served as Company Commander for the 435th Medical Battalion (twice), Springfield, OH; 311 Station Hospital, Cincinnati, OH; and 2291st Hospital, Columbus, OH. When not serving as Commander, he served as Chief of Logistics.
Bill had a very successful business career and retired as Vice President of Human Resources. He spent 23 years negotiating with the Teamsters, Paper Workers, IUE, and UAW Unions while working for NCR, Frigidaire-GM, Sorg Paper, Mead Corp, and Diversy Chemical Companies. His last 12 years was with GRCI, a DOD Contracting Company. He later started his own woodworking business.
Bill always stayed active with camping, hunting, being a Boy Scout Leader, working Carroll High School fish fries and bingo, and after retirement was involved in the Dayton Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the CAP, Crooksville Senior Squadron unit in Crooksville, TN, and Brookville (Ohio)VFW.
Bill passionately served and supported the equine program and staff at Carriage Hill Historical Farm. Memorial Service will be held at the Woodside Chapel in Woodside Cemetery & Arboretum, 1401 Woodside Blvd., Middletown, Ohio, on January 11, 2025, at 1:00pm with Military Honor Service at 2:45pm.
