William “Bill” Maxwell Alexander , age 74, of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, February 23, 2026. He was 1 of 6 children and was born on May 5, 1951 in Dayton where he lived his entire life. Bill attended Dunbar High School where he studied the trade of machine shop and graduated in 1969. Shortly after graduation, Bill married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Richards in 1971. They quickly became inseparable; like PB&J. Their names were rarely said apart; it was always “Bill&Pat” or “Pat&Bill”. They started a family and had 4 children.
Bill learned about his God, Jehovah at an early age. At age 14, he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Bill had a deep love for Jehovah and made an effort to share that love with others.Bill & Pat entered the full time ministry in 2018 and they often participated in various facets of service including auxiliary pioneering, Kingdom Hall building projects, cart witnessing and Special Metropolitan witnessing. Bill also served as an elder for many years. Two of his favorite scriptures were Acts 20:35 and 2 Chronicles 15:7.
Bill took over his father’s small hosiery business and re-branded it as ‘Madden Park Hosiery’. He operated the business from his mother’s home on Nicholas Rd. He very quickly became known around town as “the stocking man”, earning many loyal customers. He also owned and operated ‘Jack’s’; a small convenience store and ice cream parlor which was located on Germantown Ave. Bill retired from ‘Navistar’ in 2015.
Bill was known for his sense of humor and generosity. He was a comedian at heart! He was always ready with a witty comeback or a joke. He even displayed this humor when disciplining his children. When they would get out of hand, he would yell “bedtime for Bonzo”! The kids knew then that they had done too much. He exhibited his humor until the very end.
Bill had a love of food, sports, travel and music. He made sure his daughters could follow basketball and football. He would often discuss plays and analyze footage with his granddaughter Billye. He shared music playlists with his granddaughter Carmyn and they often enjoyed going hit for hit. It was a common occurrence for Bill to get his family together to enjoy a meal either at his home or taking a “day trip” and traveling up to a few hours to try a restaurant he heard about. Several times, Bill combined his love for travel and sports when he planned and organized his infamous basketball bus trips to watch NBA games; inviting many friends to join him and his family. Bill LOVED his family and he loved to host and feed them. He expressed this joy of his by hosting larger family picnics in the backyard of his childhood home. Friends would come from all over to attend the Alexander picnic.
