William "Bill" Hollon, age 79, of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026 following a courageous seven-month battle with cancer. The oldest of nine children, Bill was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 23, 1946 to the late Goff and Ada (Ballard) Hollon.
Bill dedicated his life to building-both custom homes and a lasting legacy of integrity. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with honor on the DMZ in Korea. His commitment to others began in the service and continued throughout his life; a dedicated blood donor since his Army days, Bill was incredibly proud to have donated just one pint short of 200 pints in his lifetime.
Since 1972, Bill was known throughout the region as a premier custom home builder. A true perfectionist, his homes were a reflection of his character and meticulously crafted. His reputation for fine craftsmanship was matched only by the demand for his signature custom-curved wood staircases. He was a man who "knew no strangers," always ready with a helping hand and a trustworthy word. His answer to "how are you" was invariably met with "never had a bad day in my life", even on his last day at the Dayton VA Hospital.
His family was his greatest treasure, and he remains a guiding light for his daughters, Laura Trusty and Christine Shope. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Brooke Baker, Brittney Shope, Blake DeBord, and Aubree Trusty and great-grandfather to Christopher, Shayne, Lylah, Lane, Carson, Gray, Nora, Cole, and Cecilia. Each grand and great-grandchild discovered the joy of a sucker from "Papaw Candy" before they ever tasted solid food.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Glenda, in 2013.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by siblings, Michael Lee, Deborah Ann Hollon Hill, Diana Gay, and Gregory Lynn. He is survived by siblings, Mitchell, Priscilla Elaine Hollon Blevins, Donald Layne, and Ronald Wayne as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins - all of which he dearly loved.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Dayton VA Medical Center. Bill truly loved the VA and the exceptional team who cared for him with such dignity during his final journey. Donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Dayton VA Medical Center (Click HERE to donate).
Bill will be remembered as a man of his word-dependable, giving, and deeply cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the funeral home.
The service will be livestreamed, click HERE to watch.
Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Byron Cemetery following the service.
