William Campbell

William Campbell, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 13, 1936, in Hazard, Kentucky, William’s life spanned nearly ninety years marked by unwavering devotion, resilience, and a deep love for those around him.

William was a man rooted in the strong values of family and community, instilled in him by his late parents, Serena and Joe Campbell. He grew up alongside his brothers and sisters, sharing bonds that would last a lifetime. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Myrtle, Oreadas, Viola, Chester, Lindon, Earnest, and Artis.

A devoted and loving husband, William married Victoria Campbell on October 7, 1972. Their marriage of over five decades was a testament to partnership, mutual respect, and enduring affection. William and Victoria built a life filled with joy, perseverance, and warmth—a legacy that continues through their son and grandchildren.

William’s proudest accomplishments centered around his family. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Victoria Campbell, he is survived by his son, Darren William Campbell - to whom he was a caring and loving father, and a beaming grandfather to Serena and Jackson William Campbell, whose laughter and curiosity brought joy to his later years. He is also survived by sister, Reva Neace, and brother, Barter Campbell.

William dedicated the majority of his working life to General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability before retiring. Outside of his career, William was a man of many interests and talents. He found great contentment in fishing and hunting—a reflection of his appreciation for nature and the quiet moments of reflection it afforded. Equally at home with wood and tools, he was exceptionally skilled in woodworking and carpentry, often spending his free time crafting enduring pieces that will remain treasured by his family for years to come.

Above all, William’s heart belonged to his family. He cherished the time spent together, whether during simple gatherings or joyous celebrations. His character, generosity, and steady presence will be remembered with deep affection by those who had the privilege to know him.

Family and friends are invited to honor William’s life during a visitation on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m., also at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial to take place following the service. 

William’s life was one of quiet dignity, dedication, and gentle strength. His memory will remain a guiding light to all who were blessed to share in his journey.
