Captain William H. “Bill” Bartlett
William Hunter Bartlett, 82, of Beavercreek, OH passed away on March 16th, 2026. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia; his parents, Charles and Lily; sister, Catherine; and brother Denny.
Bill, as he was known to friends and family, was born on May 15th, 1943, in South Boston, Massachusetts. A “Southie,” Bill had a South Boston accent that delighted friends, family and all who met him. Bill wanted to serve his country and joined the Air Force in 1962. His work took him to many countries in Europe including Germany, England and the Azores near Portugal. He also served in Greece and Okinawa, Japan.
After five years in the Air Force, Bill became a “mustang”; an enlisted person who becomes a commissioned officer. The Air Force sent hm to college at the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa, becoming the first person in his family to graduate from college. Bill continued his work in the Air Force for 23 years, retiring as captain in 1983. After working as a consultant for a year at RCA, Bill returned to work for the Department of Defense as a civilian for 25 years, retiring in 2010. While a civilian, Bill was very involved with the National Management Association and Toastmasters, helping form an annual scholarship awarded to one high school student each year.
Family was also very important to Bill.
After a 4th of July fireworks show in 1961, Bill met the love of his life, Virginia. They wed in 1963, and remained married 55 years until her death in 2019. Being able to fix almost anything as an engineer, he had many projects. He built a full railroad line for his sons, Christmas lighting displays and was a HAM radio operator.
Bill is survived by his four children, Patrick, Timothy (Corina), Susan (Wells), and Christopher (Yungui); and nine grandchildren. He spent his retired years spending time with his grandchildren and occasional travel.
Bill instilled in his family a strong work ethic, strong faith in God and family. He will be greatly missed but we are comforted knowing he is with our mother and all our family in Heaven.
