Wayne Sparrow

Wayne Sparrow, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Dayton. He was born on December 20, 1955, in Dayton, and throughout his life remained deeply connected to the community he called home.

Wayne graduated from Xenia High School with the Class of 1974. He went on to build a working life marked by dedication and steady effort, holding positions at Elano, Dayton Mental Health Hospital, Norwood Medical, and Nusavive (Globus). Those who knew Wayne will remember a man whose character left a lasting impression. He was humorous and silly, yet also firm when he needed to be. He was loving, caring, very independent, and selfless, with a true heart of gold.

He found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. Wayne loved fishing, gardening, and spending time in nature. He had an artsy spirit and a special gift for appreciating beauty in the world around him. Above all, he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with them.

Wayne is survived by his partner, Jim Hook, whose companionship was an important part of his life. He also leaves behind his sons, Wayne Sparrow, Clint Sparrow, and Shane Sparrow. His family continued to be a great source of pride and love in his life, and he is also survived by his grandchildren, Ciara F. Sparrow, Morgan M. Sparrow, Kaya D. Sparrow and Clint O. Sparrow, II; great-grandchildren Gauge A. Goodin, Rylie G. Goodin and Braelynn A. Ward. The love Wayne shared with his family will remain with them always, in memories of laughter, time spent together, and the steady care he gave so freely.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Martha F. and Robert F. Sparrow and Hayward Tackett; his brother, Glen Sparrow; and his sister, Glenda Sparrow.

Wayne's family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.  

Wayne will be remembered with deep affection for his warmth, his strength, his independence, and the love he gave to those closest to him. His life was a blessing to his family and friends, and his memory will be carried forward with gratitude and love.
