Walter M. Toney
(Walt), age 81, of Tipp City, Ohio, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Walter leaves behind a legacy defined by his love of family, unwavering integrity, and enduring faith in Jesus. He touched countless lives through his kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit, showing the utmost love, compassion, humility, and humor.
Born the youngest of three children on November 13, 1944, to the late Theodore Clarence Toney and Velma Ester (Gose) Toney, Walt grew up in Springboro, Ohio, and graduated from Springboro High School in 1963, where he was recognized as a star basketball player featured in the local newspapers.
After attending Patterson Co-Op, Walt began his career in the tool-and-die trade, working at many local tool shops around Dayton, including time spent at GM’s Delco Products.
Walt became a respected business owner and entrepreneur, beginning with Thadco Finished Products in 1984 and continuing for more than three decades through the creation of more than eight businesses, including Toney Tool Manufacturing in Dayton, Ohio, and Dot Palm Landscaping & Tree Service in the Florida Keys. He built upon both the successes and failures of each endeavor with a commitment to excellence, intense determination, and unwavering devotion to his family and the families of those he employed. Through his work, he earned not only success, but also the admiration, respect, and friendship of many who knew him.
It was these strong foundational values, along with his love and reverence for God, that led him to Christ and inspired his many endeavors and continued service to ministry work at several local churches, most notably his beloved church, Oak Creek Church in Kettering, Ohio. He was always ready and willing to serve in any way needed, most often quietly and anonymously. Walt was a shining light and a humble embodiment of what “being the hands and feet of Jesus” truly looks like.
Though his family grieves his passing, they find deep comfort in knowing Walt is reunited with his wife, soulmate, and the absolute love of his life, Debbie. Together, they blended a family bonded in love, not only through business, but through life itself. Countless family vacations and long holidays spent reminiscing, laughing, eating, playing cards, and eating some more helped form an unbreakable family bond built on love rather than blood — a tradition that will continue for generations through Walt’s legacy.
Walt is survived by his three sons, whom he loved dearly and was immensely proud of: Anthony Toney and wife Sheila; T.J. Toney and wife Tara; and Shad Toney and wife Rachel. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Robert Wallace, Kimi Cobb Berrios, Michaela McIntosh, Cheyenne Prescott-Smith and husband Alex, Shad Toney Jr. and wife Melissa, Austin Toney, Troy Toney, and Alec Toney; along with four great-grandchildren: Jaylen Berrios, Jimmy Berrios, Teagan Toney, and Sophie Prescott-Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Debbie Toney; his parents, Ted and Velma Toney; and his siblings, Ronald Toney and Ann Wendeln.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Walt is now resting in eternal peace with the Lord. His memory, faith, and love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Oak Creek Church, 4800 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walt’s name to Oak Creek Church through SecureGive on their website: www.oakcreekworshipcenter.org.
