Vernon D. Owens, also known as Vern, was born on November 14, 1944, in Jamestown, Tennessee. He passed away peacefully at home in Bellbrook, Ohio, on November 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Vern lived a life rich in faith and kindness, exemplifying the values he held dear.
A veteran of the United States Army, Vern's service to his country was a source of deep pride. He was known for his unwavering strength in faith, wanting to share Jesus with everyone around him. This passion for faith was mirrored by the warmth of his personality; he was very kind, enjoyed being around people, and dedicated himself to making others happy. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who frequently expressed pride in his children and their accomplishments.
Vern was happily married to his beloved wife, Alice Owens, for 59 years. Together, they raised a family that included their children, Lori Savage and Adam (Dana Morelock) Owens. Vern cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, Ava (Ean) Woliver, Sophia Falzerano, Van Owens, Celsie Savage, and Charles Savage IV. His legacy lives on in their laughter and memories.
In addition to his immediate family, Vern is survived by his sister, Glinda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luster and Hazel Owens, and his siblings, L. D. Owens, Barb Kirkland, Ronald Owens, Lynn Owens, and Judy Owens.
Vern’s hobbies were playing golf, working on cars, and yardwork. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, or tool, to his neighbors.
Friends and family are invited to honor his memory with a visitation on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am at Lighthouse Baptist Church (2040 W 2nd St, Xenia, OH 45385). Funeral service will begin at 10:00 am.
