Vernon "Ray" Dykes, age 71 of New Carlisle, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Vancrest Health Care Center. He was born October 14, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Andrew and Edna Dykes.
Vern served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Motors (Delco-Moraine) after 23 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman and bowler. He also enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, visiting the casinos with his friends, and spending time with his family. Vern was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many who will be dearly missed. Vern was the most dependable man you ever met and never turned his back on anyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Philip "Phil" and Dolly Parker. Vern is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jessica "Red"; daughter, Tracey Evans; son, Joshua "Jughead" Dykes; grandchildren, Brittany, Alexandra, Gwyneth, Sydney, Andrew and Sarah; two great-grandchildren; special friend, Ann McCormick; brother, James "Jimmy" Robinette; uncle Herschel (Evelyn) Parker and cousins, Barbara, Linda, Patty, Francis and John, Jr.
Family will receive friends Friday, May 12, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424) where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
