Vanessa Sue Seay, age 70, of Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday December 4, 2025 at 9:30 pm she ran into the arms of Jesus surrounded by the love of her family.
Born to the late Donald E. Drexler and Lois A. (Thompson) Drexler, Vanessa grew up in Dayton and graduated from Belmont High School, Class of 1973. Her first job was at Rike’s, where she developed her lifelong appreciation for people, conversation, and community. After marrying the love of her life, Larry Seay, Vanessa devoted more than twenty years to being a full-time mother to her daughter, Andrea-her most cherished role. She and Larry were married for 50 years and still held hands like they did when they were young. She began working for the City of Dayton in 1999 until her retirement in 2021.
Vanessa was a woman who loved deeply and generously. She was happiest barefoot in her garden, wearing her favorite hole-y jeans, tending to her flowers, or spending quiet moments with her beloved dogs. She was a natural listener-steady, warm, and endlessly concerned for others. Family and friends knew they could talk with her for hours. She had a gift for making others feel understood.
She especially treasured time with her daughter, Andrea (Jonathan) Batteas, and adored her grandchildren: Amelia, Christopher, and Samuel. Craft shows, antiquing trips, and simple afternoons together were among her most joyful moments. Her love was big, uncomplicated, and constant.
Vanessa is also survived by her sister, Cheryl (Timothy) Livingston, who shared a lifetime of memories and laughter with her. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers, Christopher and Steven Drexler.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 2:30-3:00 PM with a Funeral at 3:00 PM at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio, to honor and remember her life. Vanessa will be laid to rest following the service.
Vanessa will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on in the love she poured into her family, her kindness, and the countless conversations that will be held close to the heart.
