Udell "Dell" Breeding

Udell “Dell” Breeding, of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born on April 28, 1939, in Vansant, Virginia.

Dell was a proud graduate of Council High School. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending time in Kitzingin, Germany. After his military service, he built a life marked by hard work and dedication. He worked in the coal mines in Virginia and later spent many years in the maintenance department at Flowserve, formerly known as Duriron.

He will be remembered as the hardest worker in every facet of his life and in service to others. He was always willing to help with whatever was needed, and he had an uncanny ability to fix just about anything. Those who knew him understood that his steady presence, practical skill, and generous spirit were among his greatest gifts.

Dell found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures of life. He took great pride in his yard and made sure his grass was pristine. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews at his childhood homestead in Vansant, Virginia. He enjoyed playing cards and games with his grandchildren, and he especially loved teaching them how to cook fresh vegetables, including half runner green beans and corn on the cob with his mother’s secret recipe cornbread. He also liked going four wheeling up and down the mountains in Virginia. An avid Nascar fan, he was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt, and he loved Bluegrass music.

One of the family’s most treasured traditions was the Fourth of July, which was spent in Virginia enjoying fireworks purchased from a roadside stand along the drive down. These gatherings, along with so many ordinary and extraordinary moments, created memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Dell is survived by his daughter, Michele Compton and her husband, Todd; his son, Mark Breeding; his grandchildren, Danielle McKenna and her husband, Tommy, Haley Compton, Zack Compton, Spencer Breeding, Presley Breeding and his wife, Jessica, and Suri Breeding; and his great-granddaughter, Penelope Breeding. He is also survived by his sister, Lou Allen; his brother, John Breeding and his wife, Kim; and his sister, Novelda Kahlau. He leaves behind a family who knew his love through shared meals, games, traditions, and the many ways he gave of himself so freely.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Breeding; his son, Stephen Breeding; his sister, Yvonne Ray and her husband, Carl; his brother, Zane Breeding and his wife, Alleen; and his parents, Ellis and Julia Breeding.

Visitation will be held on September 10, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Centerville, 820 Miamisburg Centerville Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45459. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Dell will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Roxie, at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Miamisburg.

Dell’s life was rooted in family, hard work, and the hills of Virginia that always remained close to his heart. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
