Listen to Obituary

Thomas Gerald “Tom” Velkoff, age 74, of Dayton, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2025, in Kettering, Ohio. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, entering into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Tom was born on August 3, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio. He lived most of his life in the Dayton area, where he spent time with his family, church, and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Shirley Velkoff. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janet Velkoff; his children, Chris Velkoff (Mandy), Melissa Wegner (Jeremy), and Michael Velkoff (Julie); his grandchildren, Avery Wegner, Maddie Wegner, Kylie Velkoff, and Ava Velkoff; his brother, Ted Velkoff (Patricia) and their two children, Elizabeth and Catherine; and his sister, Renee Moss (Gerald) and their daughter, Mara.

Tom dedicated 50 years of his professional life as an electrical engineer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where his diligence, integrity, and expertise were deeply respected.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Tom had a genuine love for God’s Word and was a lifelong learner who valued knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. He spent more than 50 years actively involved in church life, most recently serving faithfully in the media department at Christian Life Center where he supported worship services behind the scenes through camera operation. He also had a heart for helping others and supported missionary work throughout his life.

Tom fully enjoyed the life God gave him. He found joy in gardening, caring for his indoor plants, spending time on the water jet skiing, riding motorcycles, and sharing laughter with those around him. He dearly loved his dogs and cherished time spent with family and friends.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home. Visitation from 10am-12pm with the service starting at 12:00pm. Interment will follow immediately after at David's Cemetery.

Tom will be remembered for his faith, hearty laugh, knowledge, and joy for life. A lifelong learner with an endearing, quirky personality, he loved his family, friends and the Lord.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
