Theron Earl Hoffer, affectionately known as "Red," passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on October 19, 1936, in Peebles, Ohio, and lived a life characterized by his strong faith and service to God, love for his family, and his endless laughter.
Red's professional career spanned several decades, marked by significant contributions in the field of sales. He dedicated over 20 years to Adam Wholesalers and later served as a Commercial Sales Representative for Home Depot for an additional 14 years. His expertise and dedication were further highlighted during his tenure as county commissioner in Knox County, Indiana, and as Midwest Regional President for the Y’s Men’s Club, an organization associated with the YMCA. Red’s career culminated in a well-deserved retirement at the remarkable age of 87.
Red’s commitment to service extended beyond his career. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict and continued into the Cold War, with service years spanning from 1956 to 1959. As a member of the 3rd Marine Division, 9th Marine Battalion, he was awarded a Good Conduct medal and a marksmanship medal, demonstrating his dedication and skill.
A man of strong faith and community spirit, Red was a pastor for over 60 years and a cherished member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church. His jovial nature and genuine interest in others meant that he never knew a stranger, always making time to engage with those around him. Family ties were paramount for Red; he was loving, kind, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He took immense pride in recounting stories of his family history and sharing life lessons that had been passed down through generations. His grandson, Derek Hoffer, was particularly dear to him and remained the apple of his eye.
Red is survived by his son, Tim (Diane) Hoffer, grandson, Derek Hoffer, brothers, Ted Hoffer and Feril Hoffer, and sisters, Loretta Billett and Marilyn (Jim) Whitley. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched with warmth and compassion.
He joins in eternal peace his beloved wife of 67 years Carol, as well as his parents, Ora and Anna Mae Hoffer, and sisters Myrtle Fields and Juanita Wheeler. Red's legacy of love and laughter will continue to resonate through the hearts of all who knew him.
