Theodus Rozier, lovingly known as "Chief," passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 91. Born on March 28, 1934, in Dublin, Georgia, Chief lived a full life marked by a generous spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and country.
A proud Air Force veteran, Theodus served as a Chief Master Sergeant, demonstrating a commitment to duty that he carried throughout his life. During his military service, he contributed his talents to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Then he went on to work for the Combined Health District, where he applied his expertise in healthcare administration, holding a master’s degree in the field.
Those who knew Chief remember him for his strong-willed and determined personality. He had a stern exterior but was known far and wide for his heart of gold and incredible generosity. He could light up any room with his signature "OH-IO" chant, delighting in the camaraderie of fellow Ohio fans even when far from home.
Golf was a big part of Chief’s life, playing the game up until the age of 90. He also enjoyed watching both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals play football. His enthusiasm didn't stop there, he enjoyed traveling and had a genuine love for animals.
Chief is survived by his beloved daughters, Christina (Calvin) Phillips and Shirley Ann (Rocky) Montgomery. He also cherished his honorary daughter, Teresa Battaglia, and took great pride in his grandchildren: Chyna Phillips, Anthony Montgomery, Rocky Montgomery Jr., Kishi Morton, and Shirelle Rozier. His legacy continues through his many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who carry forth his spirit.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Forestina Rozier, and his son, Theodus Rozier Jr. He also joins his parents, Otis and Pearlie Mae Rozier, and sisters Olsa Mae and Ollie in eternal rest.
Theodus “Chief” Rozier will be remembered as an amazing man who loved the Lord and his family fiercely and served his country honorably, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will resonate for generations to come.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 11am -12pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424. The service will follow at 12pm. Chief will be laid to rest with his wife at Dayton National Cemetery will full military honors at 2pm.
