Teresa Elizabeth Simmons, a beloved educator, dedicated wife, mother, and sister, and endearing friend, departed from this world peacefully at her home on October 6, 2025, at the age of 68. Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on January 19, 1957, Teresa left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Teresa's academic achievements began with her graduation from Belmont High School in the Class of 1975. She pursued higher education fervently and earned her Master's Degree in Library Information Systems from Kent State University. Her profound knowledge and passion for learning led to a remarkable career at Kettering College, where she served as an Associate Professor and later took on the role of Director of Alumni. Her dedication was further recognized when she received a 45-year service award with Kettering Health Network, exemplifying her commitment to education and service. Teresa was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Kettering.
Known for her warm and welcoming personality, Teresa was always excited to meet someone new or reconnect with familiar faces, striving to foster engaging conversations and connections. Her ability to make and maintain long-lasting relationships was a testament to her genuine interest in others, and she will be remembered for the joy she brought to those around her.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Teresa cherished her hobbies, which included cross-stitching and enjoying classic black and white films. These activities not only showcased her creativity but also provided her with a source of relaxation and joy.
Teresa leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years, Gordon Simmons; her cherished daughter, Lauren (Jason) Maddox; her devoted son, Camron (Esther) Simmons; her loving parents, Floyd and Mary Sue Hutson; and her dear brother, Dennis Hutson. She is also survived by many extended relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
As we remember Teresa Elizabeth Simmons, let us celebrate her life, her passion for education, and her unwavering ability to bring people together. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
