Takako Tobaru Galletta, a beacon of kindness and generosity whose warmth touched the lives of many, passed away on May 21, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on July 8, 1959, in Okinawa, Japan, Takako's journey was one marked by dedication, compassion, and a deep love for those around her.

Graduating from Ohio University in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Takako embarked on a career that highlighted both her technical acumen and her remarkable ability to bridge cultures. She spent many years working as an engineer, where her precision and commitment stood out, before transitioning to a role as a technical translator, a position that perfectly married her expertise with her gift for communication.

More than her professional achievements, Takako was cherished for her wonderful spirit. She was truly giving, always ready to lend her time and kindness to others. Her vibrant personality shone brightest when she was in the company of loved ones, reflecting her profound love for people. A practicing member of the SGI Buddhist Organization, her faith was a foundation of strength and serenity in her life.

Takako’s passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. She loved being around children, she enjoyed traveling, embracing the joy of discovering new places and cultures. Scuba diving brought her a special kind of peace and exhilaration, a way to connect with the underwater world she so admired. Perhaps most tenderly, she adored her dog, Momo, whose loyal companionship was a constant source of joy.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 34 years, Tony Galletta, who stood by her side as her steadfast partner through life’s many moments. Also holding her memory dear are her sister: Junko Yonesu; brother, Yoshitsune Uezu; aunt, Akiko Ikehara and her husband, Dr. Ikehara; cousins: Haruhiko Ikehara, Sayaka Ikehara, Nene, Nini and Kaori Yamashiro; brother-in-law, Todd Galletta and his wife, Ann. Together, they reflect the enduring bonds Takako fostered with those close to her.

Takako was preceded in death by her parents, her mother Yaho Tobaru and her father Yubo Uezu, whose legacies live on in the grace and strength she carried throughout her life.

Her passing leaves a profound void, but also a legacy of love, kindness, and a life beautifully well-lived. Those who knew Takako will carry her memory in their hearts, inspired by the wonderful woman she was and will forever be.

Takako's family will hold a gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Takako's memory to SGI USA.
