Suzanne “Sue” Marie (nee Schaper) Simler, age 81, passed away peacefully at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio, on June 28, 2026, with her family by her side.
Suzanne was born February 16, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Robert Arthur Schaper and Virginia “Gina” Marie Nitz Schaper. She graduated from Meadowdale High School. While on a family vacation in Miami, Florida, she met Bob Simler, who was from Lafayette, Indiana. Their connection was instant, and after two years of courtship, they married on September 5, 1964. Together, they built a life filled with love, devotion, and fun, raising their family in Oakwood, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Simler.
She is survived by one sister, Janis Tobias (Joseph) of Clarkston, Michigan; two sons, Michael Simler (Kelly) of Oakwood, Ohio; Stephen Simler (Andrea) of Lewiston, NY; one daughter, Heather Simler Putnam (John Garrett) of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren: Taylor Putnam (Ben Thieman), Madison Holland, Montgomery Holland, Mason Holland; Maxwell Johnson (Bea) and Alek Zamonski. Two great-grandchildren, Ezileo and Elladale Thieman, along with many other family and friends.
At the family’s request, there will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Life is planned for July 18, 2026, from 3-6 pm at The Miami Valley Hunt & Polo Club in Dayton, Ohio. We invite all who knew and loved Suzanne to join us in honoring her memory.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
