Listen to Obituary

Susie Lunsford, a remarkable soul who touched the hearts of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026. Born on April 28, 1945, she lived a life filled with love, kindness, and an unfailing devotion to her family and friends. Those who were blessed to know Susie often described her as amazing—an embodiment of care and generosity that left a lasting impression wherever she went.

Susie’s spirit was deeply rooted in her passions and the simple joys of life. She delighted in cooking and gardening, finding peace and fulfillment in nurturing both the earth and those she loved. An avid sewer, she poured her creativity into crafting beautiful pieces, each thread a reflection of her boundless love. Family was the center of her universe, and she cherished every opportunity to bring everyone together. Hosting family gatherings was one of her greatest joys, where laughter and love flowed freely under her warm guidance. Her heart held a special place for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren— Jessica Lunsford, Amber (Justin) McKinnis, Brittani (Rob) Luke, Natalie Lunsford, Elizabeth (Evan) McIntosh, and Taylor Childress and the many little ones who filled her days with light and laughter: Katie, Dominic, Rylie, Brianna, Tyler, Kayden, Kylar, Ava, Lincoln, Willow, Aurora, and Oakleigh.

Traveling the open road with her beloved husband Gene was a treasured adventure, a testament to their enduring partnership and love. Though Gene has gone before her, their shared memories remain a testament to a life richly lived. Susie had a deep appreciation for nature, often finding solace in watching the sunrise—a quiet moment of reflection and gratitude that spoke to her profound connection with the world around her.

Susie is survived by her devoted children: Phillip (Belenda) Lunsford, Kimberly (Don) Childress, Neet Lunsford, and Aimee Lunsford. She also leaves behind loving siblings: Betty Lee (Don), Mary (Dave), Barb (Dave), Chuck, Bonnie (Harold), and Cathy (Pat). Her family circle extends to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends who became like family to her throughout her life.

She now joins those who went before her, including her husband Gene Lunsford; her parents John & Kate Linville, Rosie Phillips and Helen Phillips-Lunsford; her sisters Muriel and Bettie Ann; sister-in-law Pam, her beloved grandson Elijah, and Chuck. Though they have departed, Susie’s memory and legacy endure, woven into the fabric of those she loved so deeply.

Susie Lunsford’s life was a beautiful tapestry of compassion, joy, and heartfelt connection. Her caring nature and blessed spirit will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her. As we say goodbye, we hold close the warmth of her love and the many ways she made the world a brighter place.
