Listen to Obituary

Sue Ann Mauller, maiden: Alexander, passed away on October 11, 2026, in Troy, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on May 17, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, and will be remembered as a woman of strength, warmth, and deep devotion to her family.

Sue built a life centered on caring for others. She worked at General Motors for about 13 years, and in the years that followed, she gave of herself in one of the most meaningful ways possible as a caregiver for both her parents and her husband. She was known for her strength, wisdom, and humor in comforting others, and her kindness left an impression everywhere she went. She never met a stranger and loved talking to people, and even hospital staff came to love her for the spirit she carried with her.

Her home and heart were always open. Sue loved to can food and cook for the people she loved, and she had a special gift for making a little go a long way—she could make a pound of hamburger feed many people. She loved her grandkids dearly, and family life was filled with family events, laughter, games, and time spent together. She enjoyed playing euchre, dominos, and canasta with family, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Sue also found joy in the simple pleasures that made life rich and personal. She loved Fox News, game shows, and soap operas. She was an avid bowler for many years and loved to craft when she could. She also enjoyed reading Stephen King books. Her life held many happy adventures as well. She traveled across the country many times, visited Germany in 2000 and saw many locations in Germany and France, and had a big 70th birthday party surrounded by those who loved her. One especially meaningful memory was a family member taking her to the Stanley Hotel in Colorado for a tour, a trip that surely suited her love of Stephen King.

Above all, Sue’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son, David Brewster, and her daughter-in-law, Shannon Brewster; her daughter, Kelli Bailey, and son-in-law Pete Bailey; and her daughter-in-law, Jaime Howell-Collins. She also leaves behind a large and loving circle of grandchildren: London Tanner; Christopher Markowski and Ashley; Jonathan Bailey and Brooke; Joshua Bailey and Savannah McKenna; Matthew Bailey; Joel Holsapple and Kasi; Cody Brewster; Sean Stanislaw; Kaitlyn Stanislaw; Nathan Brewster and Lily Howell; Austin Hauptstueck; Cody Collins; Evan Boyd and Keisha Miller; and Briana Booth and Darren.

Sue was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought continued joy to her life: Cayden, Aliza, Clayton, Carter, Jaxson, Annabelle, Josie, Layla, Arya Mae, Timothy, Landon, Connor, and John. She is further survived by her brother, Dan Alexander and Carolyn, and her sister, Carol Jean Clark and Jack. The love Sue gave to her family was steady, generous, and enduring, and that love will continue to live on in each of them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Mauller; her sons, Jay Tanner and Robert "Boo" Tanner; her granddaughter, Casey Tanner; and her parents, Ann Marie Alexander and Esmer Alexander.
