Steven Robert Shotts, born on September 10, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Dayton on October 21, 2025. He was a beloved figure in his community and an inspiration to many who had the privilege of knowing him.
Steven dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving and protecting others as a Police Officer for the Bellbrook Police Department, where he had a remarkable career spanning 25 years. Following his retirement, he continued to contribute to public safety by working as a dispatcher, ensuring that help was always available in times of need.
A proud veteran, Steven also served in the United States Marines, completing one tour in Vietnam, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and duty. His service to our country was one of his proudest accomplishments, reflecting the values he lived by: generosity, strength in character, and an unwavering desire to help others without seeking recognition in return.
Steven graduated from Hillsboro High School, where he played line tackle for the football team, showcasing his dedication and teamwork from a young age. He was known for his big heart, embodying a spirit of support and kindness that extended into his community. A heartfelt memory shared by those close to him is how he took care of his neighbor and her child, ensuring they experienced the joys of Christmas every year, despite being bedridden and having never met them. His brother Bob lovingly fulfilled this act of kindness on his behalf.
His interests were as varied as his service; he enjoyed shooting, hunting, and was an active member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), often participating in cowboy reenactments. These hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors.
Steven is survived by his son Monty Shotts, brother Robert (Denise) Shotts, and five grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom carry forward his legacy of service, family values, and compassion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Robert and Rose Mary Shotts, and his sister Teresa Dwyer.
As we remember Steven Robert Shotts, we celebrate a life dedicated to service, camaraderie, and unwavering generosity. His impact on those around him will not be forgotten, and he will be dearly missed by family, friends, and the community he so diligently served.
