Steven “Steve” M. Gough of Kettering,OH passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at age 77. He was born on October 24, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, and was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Florence Gough; his older sister, Diane Gough; and his younger brother, Joseph Gough.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gail, and his devoted children, son Gordon (Christie) Gough and daughter Rachel Gough, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Carter, Gabrielle, Alexandra, and Hudson Gough.
Steve began high school at Meadowdale High School and graduated from Kiser High School in 1967. He studied English at Wright State University. He spent more than thirty years as a Machinist at Apex Machine and Tool, retiring in 2006.
Steve was an avid cyclist, cruising the bike trails in the greater Dayton area and occasionally in Columbus, OH with his children. He loved tinkering with his bicycle collection. Steve also competed in off-hand, high-powered air-gun competitions across the eastern half of the United States. He was quite a “shot” and placed first in many of the competitions. Steve also had a passion for the written word. He enjoyed historical authors and poetry. He was known to write a poem from time to time.
Most importantly, he loved spending time with his wife, children, friends and family. Many will miss him, especially his grandchildren, who loved their Babel.
The Gough family extends a special thank-you to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit staff at Kettering Medical Center for their loving and attentive care of Steve throughout his stay.
The family will receive friends and family for a visitation on Tuesday September 22, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, OH. A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held immediately after the visitation at 11:00 am.
