Steven Paul Barlage, fondly known to all as "Steve," passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on Christmas Day in 1957, he graced the world with his presence, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Steve dedicated 43 years of his life to his career as an HVAC Maintenance Technician with Wendy's, a role that highlighted not just his technical skills, but also his dedication and unwavering work ethic. His colleagues admired his ability to never meet a stranger; once you were his friend, you were his friend for life. This remarkable trait fostered deep connections, making his workplace more than just a job, but a community where friendships flourished.
A proud graduate of Belmont High School in 1976, Steve carried the lessons of his education into every aspect of his life. He nurtured a love for life outside of work, embracing hobbies such as golfing and bowling, often finding joy in vacationing with his family, which was undoubtedly his proudest accomplishment. Family was everything to Steve, and he cherished every moment spent with his wife of 47 years, Margaret, and their three children, Bryan Barlage, Joseph Barlage, and Lindsey (Garth) McLean. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Bryson Barlage, Reagan Barlage, Myla Barlage, Maverick McLean, and Gabriel McLean, who will carry on his spirit of love and kindness.
Steve also shared cherished moments with his siblings, Tony (Cathy) Barlage and Paula (Larry) Clune, as well as his sisters-in-law Nancy (Ronnie) Lowe, Marian Drees, and Mary (Mike) Sparks. These bonds exemplified his commitment to family, and he took great pride in his relationships with his nieces, nephews, and friends, extending his warmth and generosity to everyone fortunate enough to be a part of his life.
He is reunited in spirit with his parents, Paul and Doris Barlage, and his beloved nephew, Phillip Barlage, who have been waiting to welcome him with open arms.
Steve leaves behind a legacy filled with love, friendship, and unwavering support. As we remember him, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with laughter, joy, and countless memories that will forever remain in our hearts. The world was a better place with Steve in it, and though he has departed from this life, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those who loved him.
