Stephen Leo Spitler, a devoted family man and skilled journeyman printer, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. Born on July 14, 1948, in Greenville, Ohio, Stephen dedicated much of his life to both his craft and his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy marked by steadfast commitment and heartfelt devotion.
Stephen spent his career as a journeyman printer at Dayton Newspapers, where his diligence and expertise were widely respected. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a man who truly placed his family above all else. Known for his unwavering presence, he never missed any events important to his children or grandchildren, ensuring that those moments were shared and celebrated with love and support.
His grandchildren remember with fondness the special trips they took with their grandparents—precious gifts bestowed upon each of them as they turned eight. These memories stand as a testament to Stephen’s generosity and the joy he found in fostering strong family bonds.
Stephen’s personality was marked by dedication and warmth; he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who approached life with kindness and a steady hand. He enjoyed traveling and was often found tinkering in his workshop, where he delighted in crafting and creating. Each morning began with a quiet ritual—reading the newspaper while sipping his coffee—reflecting his appreciation for both news and routine.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Spitler; his daughters Gretchen (Steve) Campbell and Katrine (Chris) Mobley; and his cherished grandchildren Kiaya Spitler, Kyle Campbell, Elora Mobley, Abigail Campbell, and Wyatt Mobley. Stephen also leaves behind his sisters Joan Linard and Jean (Joe) Beaver, sister-in-law Louann Spitler, and many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Jr. and Esther Spitler, and his brothers Gary and Randy Spitler.
Stephen Leo Spitler’s life was one of quiet strength and unwavering love. His legacy endures in the hearts of those he cherished most, and his memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
