Stephen Lee Baum

Stephen Lee Baum, known to many as Steve, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, in Kettering, Ohio, at the age of 79. Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1946, in Port Chester, New York, Steve lived a life marked by devotion to family, dedication to his career, and a deep passion for sports and camaraderie.

Steve’s early years were spent in Rye City, New York State, where he graduated from Rye High School in 1965. He continued his education at the University of Dayton, earning his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, an accomplishment that would lay the foundation for his distinguished professional journey. Steve proudly served in the United States Army.  

After completing his degree, Steve embarked on a successful career as a civil engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where he served diligently until his retirement in 2008. His commitment to excellence and his strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional achievements, Steve’s life was rich with the joys of family and beloved pastimes. He is survived by his wife, Connie, whose partnership and companionship brought him happiness for many years. Steve was a devoted father to his sons, David and Michael Baum, with whom he shared many memorable moments. He delighted in taking his boys to sporting events, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. Together, they traveled to Cooperstown, New York, visiting the MLB Hall of Fame—a testament to Steve’s deep love of baseball.

Steve also enjoyed lively adventures with his family, including trips to Las Vegas and explorations of iconic destinations such as the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and the Hoover Dam. His enthusiasm for sports was evident in his attendance at Dayton Flyers basketball games, Cincinnati Reds baseball games, and through his steadfast support for the Cincinnati Bengals, The Ohio State University football team, and the Columbus Blue Jackets. He also found joy in the excitement of UFC fights and relaxing evenings spent watching classic television shows like Cheers, Married with Children, and Seinfeld.

Family was always at the heart of Steve’s life. His sister, Marilyn Baron, and brother-in-law, Roman Baron, survive him and mourn his passing, as do so many others in his extended family and community. Steve is now reunited with his dear parents, Vincent and Mary Baum, and his brother, John Baum, who preceded him in death.

Steve’s legacy is one of integrity, warmth, and quiet strength. Those who knew him will remember his devotion to loved ones, his generous spirit, and the lasting impact of a life well-lived.

Friends and family are invited to honor Steve’s memory at a visitation on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., both at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio (3380 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432). Steve will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.
