Listen to Obituary

Shirley Winifred Stavick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, left this world peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Born on August 14, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, she grew up embodying a spirit of kindness and warmth that touched everyone she met.

Shirley proudly dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker and committed herself to her community by volunteering for 21 years at the Red Cross at Greene Memorial Hospital. Her nurturing personality and unwavering support created a loving home where laughter echoed and love was plentiful. Shirley was known for always having a bright smile on her face and an infectious joy that made everyone around her feel cherished.

The story of Bob and Shirley began when they were just children, meeting at the tender age of 9 when Bob delivered newspapers to her home. Their bond deepened over the years, intertwining their lives in a beautiful narrative marked by devotion and love over their remarkable 71 years of marriage.

As a mother, her greatest pride was her family, which included her cherished children, Blinda Pickens and Bonnie (Richard) Tracy. Shirley took immense joy in cooking for her family, and the first question from her grandchildren, Kristi Jo (Jason) Reed, Tiffany Richter, Betsy (Danny) Barron, Robert (Brittany) Gibson, was often, "What's for dinner, Grandma Shu?" She delighted in ensuring that no one ever went hungry, affirming that if someone was hungry, it was their own fault!

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to her great-grandchildren, Breanna, Sophia, Freddie, Aileena, Stormie, Madux, Chase, and Henley, who will carry forward the lessons of kindness and nurturing that she instilled in them.

Her passions were deeply rooted in creativity as she expressed herself through art and ceramics. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards with her card club, and engaging in friendly games of dominos with her family. Shirley had an infectious spirit, marked by a great sense of humor, and her humor, combined with her caring nature and deep faith, made her a beacon of light in the lives of many.

She is also survived by her beloved sister, Betty Lynn Zimmerman, whose heartache is shared by all who knew Shirley.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Shearl and Alverda Lucille Mardis, and her siblings, Shearl "Bucky" (Marilyn) Mardis and Dr. Donald Mardis, all of whom she cherished deeply.

A visitation will be held on October 3, 2025, at Oldtown United Methodist Church in Xenia, Ohio, starting at 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. She will be remembered fondly, celebrated for the loving and kind spirit she shared with everyone.
