Listen to Obituary

Sheila Renee Person, a beloved figure known for her radiant warmth and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 25, 1960, Sheila’s life was a testament to love and kindness, enriching the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

A proud native of Dayton, Sheila attended Dunbar High School class of 1978. She carried the lessons of her youth throughout her life, embodying a zest for life that was infectious. Sheila was the life of every gathering, with a friendly nature that made every stranger instantly feel like a friend. Her laughter and joyous presence were constants at family gatherings and social events alike.

Sheila’s greatest pride and joy was her family. A devoted mother to Kalinda Nolan, Amber Lynch, and Destini Lynch, whose hearts she forever held in hers, she relished every moment spent supporting them. Her love extended warmly to her grandchildren—C’aira Person, Whitney Sumlin, Monique Sumlin, De’Aaron Person, Anthony James Jr., Kha’Liah James, Donald Nolan III, Ka’Don Nolan, and Ka’Ron Nolan—each of whom was treasured deeply. Sheila also found immense joy in being a great-grandmother to Ka’Rinna, Redrick Jr., Zy’Aira, Zion, Za’Niah, Kayden, Ka’Lyn, Xairan, DeAnthony, Lalani, and Amias, cherishing these special bonds dearly.

Known affectionately as everyone’s favorite auntie, Sheila took great pride and pleasure in cooking and caring for her grandchildren, creating lasting memories year after year. Her afternoons were often lovingly filled with watching daytime TV, a simple joy that brought her comfort and happiness.

Sheila was deeply loved by her siblings Theresa Person-West, Vivian Mims, and Otis Wayne Person, who remember her as a generous and loving sister. Though her mother, Gail Person, preceded her in death, Sheila’s legacy continues vividly through her family and many dear friends; nieces, nephews, cousins, and others whose lives she touched.

Her departure leaves a profound void, but also a treasure trove of memories. Sheila passed surrounded by her loved ones, a fitting close to a life so devoted to family and friendship. Her kindness, her laughter, and the warmth she radiated will remain an enduring source of comfort and inspiration.

A visitation to honor Sheila's memory will take place on April 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life 4:00 PM at the same location, where all who knew and loved her are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate a remarkable woman whose life was a gift to so many.

Sheila Renee Person’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and the simple joy of connecting with others. While we say goodbye, we hold close the light she brought into our lives, and the enduring strength of a family held together by her unwavering love.
