Scott Edward Smith Sr., a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 30, 1969, in Dayton, Ohio, Scott was a vibrant soul whose energy and compassion touched the lives of many.
Scott was an ASE certified transmission rebuilder and co-owner of J&B Transmission in Riverside, where he dedicated himself to his trade with skill and pride. His professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.
A graduate of Stebbins High School, Class of 1988, Scott's journey through life was characterized by his stubborn yet caring nature. He was known for always going out of his way to help others, reflecting his deeply compassionate heart. His well-liked personality and opinionated views made him a memorable presence in any gathering, and his energetic spirit brought joy to family and friends.
Scott created many cherished memories, especially those spent at Lake Cumberland with his family. Whether it was bowling, golfing, fishing, or playing pool, he embraced life with enthusiasm. His passion for remodeling and building things further showcased his creativity and love for hands-on projects. He was also an avid animal lover, dedicating time to his dogs and forming deep bonds with them.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Mackenzie) Smith Jr. and Kaytlyn Smith (Brent Goodwin); parents, Betty and Robert "Butch" Smith Jr.; siblings, Bobby (Tina) Smith and Tina (Dave) Gunter; his "brother from another mother," Ronnie (Paula) Taulbee; niece, Heather (Daniel) Patterson; nephews, Bobby (Kelly) Smith, David (Caitlin) Gunter, Matthew (Madison) Gunter, and Dylan Gunter; granddaughter, Wren Goodwin; and eight great nieces and great nephews, along with a multitude of cousins and his beloved dog, Scrappy.
Scott was preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Copper and Casey, who were cherished companions throughout his life. His legacy of love, care, and compassion will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he touched. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the wonderful life he lived and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Newcomer North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH 45424). Funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm.
