Sandra Jean Hughes, a soul whose light shone brightly in the realms of care and passion, transitioned into the arms of eternity on December 13, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on August 1, 1942, Sandra's life spanned decades woven with dedication, tenderness, and care for those around her.
As a long-time healthcare worker, she embodied compassion. Day by day, Sandra poured her heart into caring for others with her strength and nurturing spirit. Her commitment to her profession was matched only by her ability to connect with those she served, bridging gaps with kindness and understanding.
Sandra was a passionate breeder of exotic birds. Her home often resonated with the melodic songs of feathered companions who reflected her own vivacious nature, and brought enjoyment to her and also to the friends and family members fortunate enough to visit. And she was an avid reader from early childhood, with a special fondness for romance novels.
Sandra's heart, however, bore profound scars from the loss of her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Eugene and Ida Weiland, whose love shaped her gentle spirit. The void left by her beloved sons, Eric and Gary Schweingruber, weighs heavily on the memories she leaves behind. The absence of her sister, Peggy Kirkpatrick, and her brother, Dennis Weiland, deepened the challenges of life's journey, yet Sandra faced each day with an unwavering resolve that inspired those surrounding her.
In the tapestry of her life, her sister, Cheryl Weiland, remains a steadfast thread, standing as a testament to their strong bond through the years. Her long-time friend and faithful care-giver Barbara Weber was a tireless supporter, making the last destination of Sandra’s life journey at Beavercreek Health and Rehab with its loving staff, comfortable and secure.
As we mourn the departure of Sandra Jean “Sam” Hughes, may we remember her as a dynamic force of compassion and spirit-a nurture whose legacy will continue to thrive through so many lives she touched and the songs of the exotic birds that will forever echo in our hearts.
Sandra will be laid to rest with the Weiland family that preceded her at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.
