Sandra Lynne Dougherty, affectionately known to many as Sandee, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, in Beavercreek, Ohio. Born on March 17, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, Sandee was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and resilience throughout her 83 years.
For four decades, Sandra devoted herself to shaping young minds, working as a teacher’s aide at Parkwood Elementary. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom walls—she was known for walking her students home, ensuring their safety and offering the nurturing presence of a "neighborhood mom." Those fortunate enough to know her recall her ever-present smile, the sparkle of her humor, and how hard it was to make her angry—but when she was, you better watch out.
Sandee found joy in the simple pleasures of life: gardening, watching hummingbirds flutter by, tandem biking with her beloved husband Russ, and traveling with her family. She particularly adored shopping trips to Put-in-Bay and had a special affection for music. A memorable adventure includes a 9,000-mile cross-country road trip with Russ, where they only got lost once—an experience emblematic of her adventurous and resilient spirit. And those who knew her will smile remembering Jimi gifting her three cases of Peeps, a favorite treat she loved savoring, particularly when well aged.
Her proudest accomplishment was her family, a testament to the love and dedication she poured into those closest to her heart. Sandra leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, Russ; her children, Jimi and his wife Dawn Dougherty; and her cherished grandchildren Nikki, Alyssa, Kristen, Dylan, Dakota, Erin, Sean, Alexandra, and Joey. She also treasured her great-grandson, Marky, and will also be missed by her sister Pamela as well as her sister in law Juanita and close friend Shawn. Though she mourned the loss of her parents, James and Marilyn Springfield, as well as grandchildren Emily and Damon and her sister in law Annabelle their memories remain forever in her heart.
Sandra’s kindness and spirit touched all who knew her; she was a grounding force and a source of love for an extensive circle of family and friends. Her laughter, generosity, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
A visitation to honor Sandra’s life will be held on April 24, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather at 3380 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH 45432, to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose legacy of love and kindness will endure.
