Rose Mary Steele

June 15, 1953 — April 9, 2017

Rose Mary Steele, age 63, of Dayton, Ohio died at Hospice of Dayton on Sunday, April 9, 2017 after a hard fought battle with cardiovascular disease.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 15, 1953 to the late Josephine and Fred Steele. Rose Mary attended twelve years of Catholic School and graduated in 1971 from St. Joseph's Academy in Cleveland, Ohio.

She then made a decision that would shape the rest of her of life. In September of 1971, she moved to Dayton, Ohio and entered St. Elizabeth Medical Center School of Nursing. She graduated in December of 1973 and started her career as a Registered Nurse. At St. E's, Rose Mary worked many years on SW 6, as a Diabetic Educator, Enterostomal Therapist and in Nursing Administration. She earned her Bachelor's degree in the Science of Nursing from Mount St. Joseph University in 1986. She worked at St. E's until its closure in 1999, which was a very sad day for Rose Mary.

Following her employment at St. E's, Rose Mary worked for Hospice of Dayton. She then worked until her retirement, in 2014, for Grandview Medical Center as their wound-care nurse.

Caring for others was Rose Mary's life work. She was a commensurate professional and committed to all patients and nursing excellence. If you could use one word to describe Rose Mary, it would be "kind." She treated all with love and respect.

Rose Mary is survived by her brother, Richard Steele of Dothan, Alabama. Her lifelong friends, Sandy and Ed Sweetnich of Dayton, Ohio. Her three devoted Godchildren and their spouses and children: Cassie, (Jeff, Annabel, Bennett, Leo) Ferndale, Michigan; Kristen (Chris, Cailen) Dayton, Ohio; Eddie (Michelle) Dayton, Ohio. Rose Mary had a host of close, wonderful friends that she had worked, traveled, and dined with over the years. Rose Mary loved dogs and had many wonderful canine companions. Her current canine friend is a Morkie, Coco Chanel.

A celebration of Rose Mary's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wound Clinic at Grandview Medical Center, 405 W. Grand Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45405.
