Ronald Shanklin, affectionately known as "RJ," passed away on August 26, 2025, at the age of 55 in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on August 28, 1969, RJ was a person who filled every room with laughter and kindness, known to all as a true people person with an infectious sense of humor.
A proud United States Navy veteran, RJ served during Operation Desert Storm, exemplifying his commitment to duty and country. After his military service, he began a reputable career at General Motors, where he was well-respected and valued for his contributions.
RJ's dedication to helping others was further highlighted by his and his wife Christina's joint work as dialysis technicians. Their commitment to healthcare illustrated their compassion and desire to improve the lives of those around them.
A proud graduate of Wayne High School, RJ cherished education and constantly sought to expand his knowledge, particularly in history. His interests were many; RJ was known for his love of karaoke—whether performing in front of an audience or enjoying it in the comfort of his home. He was also an accomplished saxophonist and a skilled player of poker and Euchre, as well as an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast.
RJ is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Christina Shanklin; their two children, Curtis Shanklin (Sydney) and Collin Shanklin (Adrianna Hansen); as well as his siblings—Rachel Vance (Ron), Naomia Hardy (Dan), Eric Shanklin (Bernory), and Matthew Shanklin; sister-in-law Tera Rodgers (Charly), his special companion Mr. Bo Jangles, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all cherished moments spent with him.
RJ was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Jo Alva, and two sisters-in-law, Tonya Shanklin and Tonya Overholts. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved and knew him, reflecting a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering support for all.
