Ronald Alex Lakatos, affectionately known as Ron, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 4, 1940, in Dayton, Ohio, Ron lived a life marked by dedication, service, and deep family bonds.

A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ron demonstrated early on a commitment to discipline and service. He honorably served in the United States Navy, exemplifying his dedication to his country. Following his military service, Ron embarked on a distinguished career with the Montgomery County Sheriff Department, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. His law enforcement career was a source of immense pride, highlighted by the special partnership he shared with his police dog, Fritzi. Beyond his badge, Ron also maintained his realtor’s license with Roth Realty, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his community in multiple professional capacities.

Ron was known among his friends and family as a jokester with a quick wit, a kind and caring individual, and a loyal and great friend. His hands-on nature made him especially handy, always ready to lend a helping hand. His passions were as varied as his talents; he found great joy in boating, fishing, and spending quality time with his grandson, Alex Tanski, who he considered his proudest achievement. An avid golfer and accomplished drummer, Ron also took pleasure in jet skiing, playing cards, and indulging his extensive love of collecting cars—his prized possession being a 1967 Corvette, which he cherished deeply.

Ron’s family formed the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to Barbara, his beloved wife of 55 and a half years. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories and deep companionship. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan Tanski, his grandson, Alex Tanski, his sister, Carol Wolf, and his brother, Gary Lakatos, as well as Gary’s wife, Marci. Ron’s family circle extends to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all felt the warmth of his character. He is predeceased by his parents, Alex and Margaret Lakatos, and his daughter, Diane Arlene Lakatos.

Throughout his youth, Ron earned the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout, a milestone that highlighted his leadership and character. This dedication to excellence and personal achievement was a constant theme throughout his life.

Ron will be remembered with great respect for his service, his enduring kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on through his loving family and all who had the privilege to know him.
