Rodrick "Rod" L. Arney

Rodrick "Rod" L. Arney, age 73 of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 10, 2026. He was born December 27, 1952 in St. Charles, Virginia. The son of the late Barbara and Gerald Fleenor.

Rod was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a 1972 graduate of Fairview High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country. Rod retired after 20 plus years as a Dayton Firefighter. He was known as "Rockin Rod" with plenty of funny stories with his friends and family. Later in his life he was known as "Cabana Man" serving up strong drinks and good times on family vacations. He loved boating with friends, playing his guitar, and spending time with his family. Rod will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Rod was preceded in death by his nephew, James "Jimmy" Stanaford.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Theresa Arney; daughters, Chelsea (Mitchell) Thompson and Lisol (John) Arney; granddaughters, Cora and Layla Thompson; siblings, Renota (Rick) Stanaford, Belinda (Marvin) Knowles, and Ellen (Carl) Schubert; severl nieces and nephews; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 4-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424.

A Funeral Service will be held the following day, Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 9am at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Rod's honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
