Listen to Obituary

Rodney Lee McCormick, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on May 26, 1933, in Chilliothe, Ohio, Rodney lived a life rich in love, kindness, and cherished memories.

Rodney dedicated many years of his life to public service, working in maintenance for the City of Dayton until his retirement in 2001. His work was not merely a job; it was an extension of his giving nature, embodying his philosophy of service to others. Known for his warm personality, he was a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Those who knew him can attest that Rodney would do anything for anyone, often described as someone who would give you the shirt off his back.

Above all, Rodney was an amazing father, brother, and grandfather. He took immense pride in his family, relishing the moments spent with his children, Diane (James) Gilmore and Daryl (Stephanie) McCormick, and his grandchildren, Brittany (Colton) Fannin, Thomas “T.J.” Gallant, and Bradyn McCormick. His heart swelled with joy as he embraced his role as a great-grandfather to Kinsley and Jameson Fannin. The connection he shared with his family was profound, and his proudest accomplishments were indeed his loved ones.

Rodney's zest for life extended well beyond his family. He was an avid biker, often enjoying the beautiful bike paths, and had a passion for golfing and all things outdoors. His interest in Native American history and culture led him to travel across the country, attending outdoor drama shows that celebrated these rich traditions.

He is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with his dear siblings, Connie Rives and Lucy Parsons, and his nephew, Kirt Rives. Rodney now joins his parents, Howard and Florence McCormick, and his nephew, Michael Parsons, in eternal rest.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Rodney's life. Visitation will be held on December 30, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM, both taking place at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Rodney Lee McCormick leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
