Robert Wayne Hildebrand, affectionately known as Wayne, was born on March 6, 1943, in Urbana, Ohio. He passed away on May 16, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy characterized by compassion, determination, and a commitment to service.
Wayne dedicated many years of his life to his role as the maintenance man at the Federal building in downtown Dayton. His work was not just a job but a reflection of his strong will and his desire to help others. He possessed a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, focusing on maintenance, and took great pride in his education, which included obtaining his GED and furthering his studies to achieve his degree. Wayne’s journey to becoming a federal employee was one of his proudest accomplishments, symbolizing his resilience and ability to overcome challenges.
He was well-loved for his ability to lecture and give guidance, which became a hallmark of his personality. Those who knew him appreciated his simple yet compassionate nature; he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Wayne had a zest for life that extended beyond his career. He enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee with Joe and Deb Chapman, and his enthusiasm for games on the Atari brought joy to his leisure time.
Wayne’s family will remember him fondly, including his daughter Jacqueline Cossin and her husband Douglas Frye, and his grandsons Cody Fletcher and Nathan Gibbons. Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends and family who cherished his presence in their lives.
Wayne’s legacy will also include his love for those who have gone before him, including his son Robert Lee Hildebrand, his father Nathaniel Hildebrand, his mother Emma Kessler, his sister Shirley Settle, and members of the Chapman family and friends who have also passed.
A visitation is scheduled for May 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Kettering, Ohio.
Wayne Hildebrand will be remembered not only for his contributions to his work and community but even more so for the warmth and kindness he extended to those around him. His spirit will continue to inspire and touch the lives of all who had the good fortune to know him.
