Robert George Stewart, of Xenia, peacefully passed away at his home on July 30, 2026. He was born June 17, 1943, the only child of George C. and Virginia L. (Barnett) Stewart, in Dayton, Ohio. His childhood was spent in Dayton, but Xenia became his permanent home in 1959.
He served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Bob was employed by the Xenia Fire Department as a Firefighter/Lieutenant. When he wasn’t at the fire house, he was always working a second job-- hod carrying, house painting, cleaning carpets, landscaping, & carpentry-- to name a few. He retired from the City of Xenia in 1992 but did not become idle. Bob was a gifted guitarist, an avid gardener, and an excellent cook. He had a quiet appreciation for the beauty of nature and a soft spot for animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 18 years, Carol (Holliday) Stewart; his companion of over 30 years, Susan I. Honeyman; and his beloved grandson, Robert B. Stewart.
Bob is survived by his daughters: Lisa (Harry) Mueller of Beavercreek, Tina Matheney of Xenia, Joan (William) Voskuhl of Xenia, and Laura (Philip) Ringer of Xenia; Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. However, he was fond of the work of the Humane Society of Greene County and the volunteers there. Donations can be made in his memory to: The Humane Society of Greene County, P.O. Box 51, Xenia, OH 45385.
