Robert Alvin "Bob" Ehlert, 85, of Franklin, Ohio, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Hospice.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Joyce (Gallina) Ehlert, three daughters, Michelle, Julianne, and Melissa, and Michelle's husband, Louie, his "best bud" for years.
He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Bob, Katie, Chris, Alex, Mali, Gus and Lilly, and sister Marilyn Bernhardt.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan to Walter and Agnes Ehlert, and raised in Northville, Michigan by his mother Agnes and stepfather Henry Bernhardt.
While in the USAF, he attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and served in the Korean War as Airman First Class.
He graduated from Michigan State University in Electrical Engineering and worked in the aerospace industry, belonging to the Association of Old Crows, as well as several other professional organizations.
He and Joyce moved to Franklin, Ohio and became very active in civic and community services, including helping to raise money for, and building, Harmon Playground.
Bob was a man of strong intellect and opinions, loved woodworking, was an avid golfer, and a great practical joker. He loved a good chat over the fence, and making sure the grass was always greener on HIS side of it.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Dayton VA Medical Center and Hospice. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last six years of his life were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
