Robert L. Buchanan, born on May 18, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in his hometown. Robert lived a life dedicated to hard work and helping others. He was a truck driver for various companies, including Red Ball Moving & Storage, where he was known for assisting people in moving their belongings across the country.

Throughout his life, Robert was recognized for his quiet and stoic nature. He kept to himself, but his kindness and strong sense of independence shone through in his actions. Robert took great pride in having a tidy and organized life, and he was always there to lend a hand to family and friends. His intelligence and giving spirit made a lasting impression on those who knew him.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Robert served during the Korean Conflict, an experience that shaped his strong character. Outside of his work and service, he had a passion for fishing, enjoyed going to horse races, loved to play Bingo, and root for his favorite football teams.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Amber (Zac) Cunningham; grandsons, Brian Robert Buchanan and Brandon Struble; great-grandchildren, Nova and Bradley; sisters, Mary Shaneyfelt and Shirley Salley; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Edward Buchanan Sr.; mother, Mary Butts; stepfather, Elwood Butts; wife, Barbara "Joanne" Buchanan; daughter, Darlene Buchanan; and siblings, Rachel Buchanan, Edward Buchanan Jr., Betty Bateman, Elwood Clayton "Butch" Buchanan, Roger Buchanan, Virginia "Ginger" Taylor, and David Leroy Butts.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 12:30-1:30pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45424. The service will follow at 1:30pm. Robert will be laid to rest next to his wife at Willow View Cemetery.

Robert L. Buchanan will be remembered by all who knew him for his caring nature and quiet strength.
