Listen to Obituary

Robert Harvey Blue, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 13, 1944, he was the second child of the late Donald H. and Clarice (Beck) Blue. His family relocated to Dayton, Ohio, in early 1945, where Bob spent most of his childhood.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 ½ years, Bonnie Jean (Kersey) Blue, whose love and partnership were the foundation of his life. Together, they created a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will live on through their children: Steven (Lisa) Blue and Amanda (Joelle) Blue, as well as their cherished granddaughters, Emma, Kelsey, and Bailey. Bob is also survived by his sister, Judy (Blue) Hood, and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Bob's early academic achievements were marked by his graduation from Belmont High School in 1962. He then went on to graduate with honors in 1967 from the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. His pursuit of excellence continued throughout his life, including a passionate involvement in bridge tournaments during the 1970s. A proud Life Master, Bob came within a whisker of earning the coveted Ruby level, falling just 10 points short.

The 1980s were devoted to his family—cherishing time with his children as they grew. Family vacations to Florida were filled with laughter—swimming in the pool, playing in the ocean, and visiting Disney World. Music filled the Blue household, with albums playing throughout the home and outings to live concerts. A true foodie, Bob enjoyed exploring restaurant menus and sharing meals. He was also a movie lover, often quoting favorite films. A kid at heart, Bob embraced fun wherever he found it—taking motorcycle rides, playing video games and cards, spinning “donuts” in snowy parking lots, coaching soccer, building igloos during winter storms, and playing with his beloved dog, Charmer.

Bob had a lifelong love of numbers, which shaped both his career and his passions. His professional career spanned 38 years with the Ohio Department of Taxation, where he worked diligently as an auditor and, ultimately, supervisor, retiring in 1994. After retirement, Bob enjoyed contributing to the community by tutoring at Orchard Park School in Kettering. Bob and Bonnie also embraced a new chapter focused on travel. They explored the beauty of Alaska, New Zealand, Amsterdam, and many other countries, but their adventures were sadly interrupted by COVID. Still, their shared experiences created lasting memories they both treasured.

Bob will always be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his passion for life. He had a generous heart and a dry, sarcastic humor that made his presence both comforting and entertaining. While he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to call him a friend, mentor, or loved one. We find comfort in knowing that Bob is now reunited with Bonnie, his one true love. Married on June 11, 1965, their years together were filled with devotion, laughter, and adventure.

Family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor David Tackett to officiate.
