Robert "Bob" Bauman, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on December 22, 1931, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Viola Bauman; his siblings, Eugene Bauman (Winifred) and Mary Alice Bauman; and his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Jean (nee Hunt) Bauman.
Bob proudly served in both the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany as a radio operator and the National Guard. After his service, he began a career in telecommunications—an emerging computer technology field at the time. A graduate of Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, he worked for Burroughs as a Field Engineer before returning to Ohio and joining NCR, where his position as Field Engineer led to a position as a technical writer of software manuals. He retired in 1993 after 30 years of dedicated service and went on to become an entrepreneur.
Bob was widely known for his warmth, quick wit, and generous spirit. He never met a stranger and was often described as the life of the party—especially by his children’s friends. Bob and Mary Jean shared a love for travel, bridge, and weekends full of laughter with close friends. Together, they enjoyed memorable trips to Florida, the Caribbean, Alaska, London and even the Panama Canal.
He is survived by his children, Renée Gilstrap (Pete), David Bauman (Kathy), and Connie Lohmeier (Mark); his grandchildren, Rachelle Reed (Matthew), Julia Reed, Spencer Lohmeier, Annie Lohmeier, Grant Lohmeier (Abigail), Candice Land (Leon), Jason Gilstrap, Kristin Goessl (Nick), and Lee Jones (Stacy); as well as great-grandchildren Abigail (Brandon), Aidan, Alex, Andrew, Amber, Brennan, Hunter, and Payton. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and a dear family friend, Ken Reed.
Bob’s life was marked by deep love for family, pride in his work, and genuine joy in every friendship he made. His kindness, laughter, and unwavering positivity will be remembered always.
