Rickey Eugene Young, born January 1, 1954 in Xenia, Ohio, passed away peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 6, 2026, at the age of 72. Rickey’s life was marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering loyalty to his family and friends.

A proud graduate of Xenia High School in 1972, Rickey carried his love of sports to Central State College, where he played baseball and built many lasting memories. Following his passion for serving others, Rickey enlisted in the United States Navy. He bravely served his country, including a tour during Desert Storm aboard a transportation ship, and earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and Service Deployment Medal as testimony to his steadfast commitment and integrity.

After completing his military service, Rickey returned home and dedicated his career to his community as a Corrections Officer at Lebanon Correctional Institute, remaining there until his retirement. In both his professional and personal life, he was known for his hard-headed, ornery spirit, which endeared him to all who knew him.

Rickey’s greatest pride and accomplishment, however, was always his family. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving sister, Denise Paxson; grandson, Nate Hollon; brother-in-law, Mick Howard; step-daughter, Rachel Elerick; granddaughter, Brittany Leblanc; grandson, Matthew Leblanc; nieces, Erica Paxson and Erin Paxson; dear friend, Ed Bolka; sister-in-law, Lynnelle Howard; and fur baby Daisy Mae. Rickey’s treasured sense of humor, infectious love of food, and his generous spirit will live on in each of them.

He is now reunited with his beloved wife Rebecca, as well as his father Joseph Young, mother Wanda Young, brother Robert Young, and brother-in-law Gregory Paxson, who all preceded him in death.

Rickey was a true enthusiast at heart. He loved cheering for the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Reds, tending his garden, caring for his dogs, and competing in video games. Whether savoring a favorite meal or sharing a laugh, Rickey approached life with genuine warmth and enthusiasm.

A graveside service honoring Rickey's life will be held at 11:00 AM on August 20, 2026, at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45428. Rickey and his wife Rebecca will be laid to rest together at Dayton National Cemetery.

Rickey Eugene Young’s legacy is evident in the enduring love of his family, the friendships he fostered, and in the memories of his dedicated service to both his nation and his community. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
