KASTNER, Richard, J. age 92, of Dayton Ohio, passed away April 9, 2017.
He graduated from Wilber Wright High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was in training to become a pilot when the war ended and was honorably discharged.
He worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an aeronautical engineer and retired after 44 years of service. He worked on many projects and received many awards for his service.
He was a devoted husband and father of 4 children and 10 grandchildren.
He was a member of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and expressed his love of music by singing in the choir and worked on the parish festival committee. Later he joined Ascension Catholic Church and built a cross for the chapel.
He had a love for flying and was a licensed private pilot. He built and flew model airplanes. He joined the Miami RC club and traveled to many fly-ins in Ohio, Indiana, and Florida in his retirement years.
He had a love of skiing (both water and snow) and taught his family how to do both. He loved the outdoors and took the family camping. He was a boy scout leader.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Alois and Elizabeth (Leibrecht) Kastner and Sister Margaret (Kastner) Furry.
He is survived by wife of 59 years Irma (Strukamp) Kastner, Daughter Ann Sherman (Mark) and their children Brian, Sarah, Michelle, and Rachel, Son Tom Kastner, Daughter Clare Wallin (Jay) and their children Tyler, Emily, and Ben, Son David Kastner (Lana) and their children Leah, Jared, and Joshua.
Family will greet friends from 10-11am on Wednesday April 18th at Ascension Church in the narthex. Funeral Mass to follow at 11am. Ascension is located at 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering, OH 45420.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's Association and Hospice of Dayton are appreciated.
The family would like to recognize staff, especially Milly (his angel), of Brookdale of Beavercreek for their outstanding care he received while residing for the past 2 years.
