Richard Faye, age 86, of West Carrollton, OH passed away on Friday February 21, 2014.
He is preceded by his first wife, Gloria Ivers; and daughter, Kathy Strausbaugh.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Pat Ivers; children, Jennifer Cornwell and her partner, Tim Justice; step-daughter, Deborah Staton (Tim); and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Richard grew up in Glouster, OH. After graduation, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Hornet CV12 in many ports of call. Upon returning, he went to Ohio University in Athens on the GI Bill. On summer break from college in 1947, he took an entry level job at Miami Oxford Paper Company, later Fraser Paper Company, staying 54 years working his way to Maintenance Superintendent. He loved fishing the lakes of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota with his many cronies. He enjoyed UD Basketball with his pal, Ron. He was a great fan of Ohio State Football, also.
He passed in a peaceful manner after a week of being surrounded by his family and friends, who came to say goodbye. He loved that old papermill and all the many people who crossed his path there. They came to his bedside in love and prayer to tell war stories of the old days. Roger, Larry, Jerry, Chuck, Bernie, and Harry, all shared their feelings of admiration for him. Karen, the Hospice pastor, sat by his side singing beautiful spirituals about going home to God. At the end, his crisis care nurse, opened the window to let his soul fly. His granddaughter said, "Grandpa is dancing with Jesus." In honor of Dick, treasure each other and do something kind for an animal in need. He so loved his furry friend, Sugar.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
Services will be private, no viewing.
Arrangements are by the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH.
