Richard John Huss, born on June 17, 1938, in Rochester, New York, and a longtime resident of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2025. Richard was a devoted family man, a dedicated professional, and a proud veteran, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by his loved ones.

Richard enjoyed a distinguished career, working for 36 years as a supervisor at Monsanto. He exemplified dedication and leadership in his role. He taught drivers education for many years, and also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Richard was a 4H advisor for 10 years. Outside of his professional life, he also served with great honor as a Company Commander in the Washington Township Fire Department for 36 years, an honor very few held. During his time with the fire department he touched countless lives and earned the respect and admiration of his community.

A patriotic man, Richard proudly served in the United States Air National Guard and United States Air Force, where he developed a strong sense of duty that would define much of his life. His commitment extended into his personal endeavors, where he found great joy in working outside, tending to his yard, and gardening. He also enjoyed dancing, he and Patricia danced at Arthur Murray Dance Studio for 10 years.

Family was at the heart of Richard’s life. He deeply loved his wife, Patricia Huss, and was a devoted father to his son, Brian (Dalana) Huss, and daughter Julie (Frank) South. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy—he cherished moments spent with his grandchildren, Darcey (Jonathan) South, Drew South, and Brennen South. Additionally, he was blessed with numerous great-grandchildren who were a source of pride and happiness for him.

Richard maintained close ties with his siblings, including his sister Rosemary (Ray) Wasky and brother Raymond (Donna) Huss. He valued the time spent with family and friends, often enjoying weekly lunches with his fellow retired firemen, where laughter and camaraderie flourished.

In his quieter moments, Richard was known for his love of his dog, Gus, who brought him companionship and joy throughout the years.

His parents, Clarion and Mary Huss, predeceased him, but the values they instilled in him lived on through his actions and the love he shared with those around him.
