Rebecca Joan Rounds, known to many as Becky, passed away on May 29, 2026, in her hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on November 9, 1952, in Dayton, Rebecca lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who knew her.

Rebecca’s formative years were shaped in the local community where she graduated from Stebbins High School. Her pursuit of knowledge and commitment to excellence led her to earn a Master’s Degree from Wright State University, laying a strong foundation for her future endeavors.

Her distinguished career was devoted primarily to the United States Air Force, which she entered in 1972. Over the span of her military service, Rebecca earned several commendations, including the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. She honorably served during Operation Enduring Freedom, exemplifying courage and resilience. Upon retiring in 2003, she continued her commitment in the United States Air Force Reserves, demonstrating steadfast dedication to her country.

Beyond her military accomplishments, Rebecca was known for her vibrant personality and generous heart. Described as energetic, kind, compassionate, and a natural caretaker, she had a remarkable ability to connect with others, truly never meeting a stranger. Her spirited nature was balanced by a strong will—stubborn yet opinionated in the most endearing ways, always standing up for what she believed was right.

Rebecca’s interests were as varied as they were meaningful. She volunteered at Five Rivers Metro Park and trained at Carriage Hill Park to work with horses, sharing her love and care with these majestic animals. She tirelessly contributed to the St. Helen's Festival and delighted children and families by dressing up as the Easter Bunny to hand out candy. A lifelong bird watcher and stargazer, she found peace and wonder in the natural world. A committed community member, she worked at the polls during Election Day, marched in the No Kings Day protests, and walked during Martin Luther King Day events. She was also actively involved in Gay Pride events, embracing and advocating for inclusivity and equality.

Rebecca’s family was a central pillar of her life. She is survived by her beloved siblings: Penny Center, Pam Dowen, Gary Rounds, Greg Rounds, Robin Macadangdang, and Dede Atwood. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Sandy Rounds, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews who carry forward her spirit and legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lorraine Rounds; her brothers, Jack Rounds, Rick Rounds, and Rodney Rounds; her sister, Cheryl Gordon; and her brothers-in-law, Jack Center and Darrell Atwood.

Rebecca’s life will be honored with a Celebration of Life to be held on June 28, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Dayton Boat Club - Rowing, located at 3040 Great Miami River Recreational Trail, Moraine, Ohio. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and all whose lives she touched to remember her remarkable journey and lasting impact.
