Raymond M. Hines, Sr., passed away on August 16, 2025, in Lebanon, Ohio. He was born on January 21, 1933, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to Matthew and Lena (Childress) Hines.

Raymond served in the United States Air Force for eight years during the Korean War. After earning a Master's degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) he transferred from McClellan Air Force Base to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), where he continued his career as a civilian until his retirement.

His commitment to hard work extended beyond his professional endeavors; he was known for his ability to fix anything and was often found engaging in home repairs. A lifelong runner and black belt in Taekwondo, Raymond embodied tenacity and discipline in both his personal pursuits and career. Never one to sit still for long, he also taught math at Sinclair Community College and went on mission trips to Haiti.

While Raymond was perceived as serious and reserved, he could also be unexpectedly funny and quirky. His interests were diverse, ranging from a love for cartoons – particularly the Smurfs – to an enthusiastic appreciation for the Harry Potter series. A dedicated consumer of science fiction books and movies; Raymond was also known for his collection of random bits of information, which he freely shared. Music was an integral part of his life – on any given day he might be found dabbling at the piano, singing in a choir, listening to Nat King Cole, or fostering a love of music in his children and grandchildren. While he may have shown it quietly, he had an immense love for his family.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances (Ryhmes) Hines; children, Stanley (Lori) Hines, Trent (Helen) Hines, Tracee (Tim) Powell, and Stacee Shadd; grandchildren, Kyle Hines, Taylor (Noah) Herzog, Samantha (Matthew) Shipman, Courtney Wilson, Joshua (Erin) Zugelder, Morgann Hines, Trevor Hines, Alexander Powell, Airron Powell, Marcus (Drew) Shadd, and Raven Shadd; seven great-grandchildren; and niece, Frieda (Clem) Demus, along with many extended family members and friends.

Raymond is preceded in death by his son, Raymond M. Hines, Jr.; parents, Matthew and Lena Hines; and siblings, Lillian, Roy, Jessie, and Charles, along with many others.

A private gathering will be held by the family at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Raymond.

Raymond M. Hines, Sr.'s legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
